![]() I originally expected the entire episode to be a musical, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were really only 2 songs in the whole episode. But in the end the combination of Summer/Jerry/Beth's subplot with the ridiculousness of the Ice T (is it Water T now?) subplot make for a pretty funny episode. ***CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS*** I see where the other users are coming from there's some weird music, the plot's kind of dull (at least for Rick and Morty) and the general story seems somewhat similar to South Park's episode S7E01 - Cancelled, in which the boys discover that Earth is nothing but a reality TV show. Keep in mind, this review is being written before all the episodes for Season 2 have been released. I'm also really proud of Ice-T for finally caring about the Earth and the alphabetrium idea was also very creative. It was really a breath of fresh air (and a breath of fresh Summer) after the ending of Total Rickall made it hard for me to watch it again. I liked the songs and the giant heads' loud voices were funny, as well as the head religion subplot. It really helps that this episode is written by the same writer as The Wedding Squanchers. This obviously wasn't the case in Lawnmower Dogs or The Wedding Squanchers, which tell us that consequences in our own universe DO matter. This was obviously done so that we don't see when episodes fail because Rick (and even Morty in some cases) is too unlikable to care about. I always hate it when Rick and Morty has certain episodes like Rick Potion #9 or The Ricks Must Be Crazy where we're not supposed to care what terrible stuff happens to anyone and what they do because the writers think life is meaningless, because that kills the stakes in other episodes like Meeseeks and Destroy, A Rickle in Time, Mortynight Run and this episode. Right from the start your review had me separated. But when you look a bit deeper they say something about it. These guys come up with original stuff to hold a mirror to our ordinary stuff. Just like Idol and X-factor, it's all a meaningless, stupid contest. We don't have the earth on the elimination round of a make believe reality contest every week because it's stupid. They put the earth on the elimination round as a joke. The meaninglessness of our current fad with x-factor or Idol. No correlation there in our current religious doctrines at all. They interpret a completely false reality because they don't know the answers and listen to the guy who seems to make sense. The whole misinterpretation of the church followers. So you know what i'm saying when i call you a Morty. It's not an insult to most people because they don't know Morty, but you do, you know Morty don't you. Kevinniederman you seem like a real Morty. Morty disagreeing with Rick on moral grounds and grabbing the nearest Rick technology and randomly pressing the buttons. Ice Tea saving the planet, Drunk Rick singing the schwifty song. I mean, that's what would happen in real life, right? I'm glad they have scenes after the credits of every episode. I like the idea of forming a new one over a being of immense power of which there is evidence of. I couldn't tell if this was pro or anti-religious. While a crazy idea done in an hilarious execution, he really does come off as a sympathetic character in the end. It all makes more sense for his appearance by the end. It's certainly unpredictable and the real treat is Ice-T. We even get some heartwarming moments as Morty goes back to help Rick. Now, I will admit that this actually seems a lot like a certain episode of Jimmy Neutron, but this show just did it better. This one features a giant head coming to Earth asking for an original song who then brings the Earth to an "American Idol" like parody to judge their planet. This wasn't one of the best episodes, but I would still watch the worst "Rick And Morty" episode over the best "Sonic Underground" episode.
